One of the core values of Judaism, and a guiding principle at Chizuk Amuno, is Gemilut Hasadim, Acts of Lovingkindness. The age of Mitzvah is a wonderful time to explore opportunities for engagement that feel personal and meaningful. In the year leading up to their simhah, our B’nei Mitzvah candidates are encouraged to connect with a service opportunity to see what an impact their time and compassion can make. We love to hear all of the wonderful ways that our young people have touched their community as they share about these Acts of Hesed in their D’vrei Torah.
Part of becoming B’nei Mitzvah, members of the adult Jewish community, is accepting responsibility for the world around us and doing mitzvot to create a positive impact. Some students and families come to the process already passionate about an idea or a cause. For those who are still exploring, we host a Mitzvah Fair for students and their parents every two years to connect youth with volunteers and representatives from a great many partner organizations. Families are also welcome to set up a time to speak with Jayne Gerson, our Director of Gemilut Hasadim, to learn more about local organizations that welcome helping hands.
